Vision:
The Oakland County Medical Control Authority, in association with CPR Connection of North America, has a vision to support the development and enhancement of AED programs across Oakland County. Our vision includes sharing our program with other Medical Control Authorities across the state of Michigan.
Mission Statement:
The Mission of the Oakland County Medical Control Authority and CPR Connection of North America is to provide the staggering number of victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) with the best possible chance for survival. To this end, Revive 2 Survive, a strong community AED program has been created.
Key Factors:
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest victim survival rate is less than 5% when someone collapses out of a hospital setting. With early lay rescuer CPR and use of a defibrillator the survival rate increases up to 74%. Despite the best efforts of dedicated EMS professionals, the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest are poor in the community setting. Every minute that passes your chance of survival decreases by 10%.
- Placing Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s) in the community setting is becoming a standard of care and may even be required by local and state mandates. Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, anytime – at school, at church, at work, in health clubs and shopping at the mall. Our vision is to create a network of support services to the help address questions and concerns related to public access defibrillation programs, increase the number of lay rescuers trained in CPR/AED, and to enhance and implement AED programs.
Core Purpose:
Oakland County Medical Control values it community. Through collaborative relationships our purpose is as follows:
- Review existing AED programs for regulatory compliance.
- Provide medical oversight to existing and new programs.
- Create a legally compliant AED program that will support all community programs.
- Decrease the staggering death rate from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
- Increase Oakland county survival rate over the next 5 years.
- Generate funds to donate Philips AED’s and training to support new program development.
- Create a model for all community groups to utilize that will outline the application and enrollment process.
- Create a database of AED locations and to support program management.
Action Plan:
Future fundraising efforts and grants will fund the Revive 2 Survive program and will donate Philips AED’s with training vouchers to help implement new AED programs in the community. The community member must apply by filling out an application for AED’s and training vouchers. The community member will be required to register their AED and program with Revive 2 Survive.
Requirement for registering your AED with the Revive 2 Survive program offers you:
- Quality information and resources
- Knowledge of where the AED’s are located in Oakland County
- Assistance with maintenance notification of AED’s in the Community with use of a web based program
- Notification of any legislative updates for AED programs
- Notification of American Heart Association Guidelines that may affect your AED protocols
